Located in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast, BDA Architecture has crafted a contemporary home that speaks to the enduring appeal of mid-century modern and classic Palm Springs design, as featured on The Local Project.
Balancing timeless aesthetics with a deep connection to its natural surroundings, this project celebrates clean lines, geometric shapes, and a thoughtful material palette styled by Studio Beck.
Spread across three levels, the architectural design takes cues from Palm Springs modernism, using smooth contours and open spaces to blend seamlessly with the coastal landscape. The interior’s flowing lines create a sense of grandeur, while materials like concrete, steel, stone, and timber reflect the vibrant lifestyle of its residents.
While rooted in mid-century modern principles, Albatross House also embraces contemporary elements that adapt the style to its unique coastal environment. The materiality of its design reflects this seamless integration. Inside, engineered timber flooring, plush wool carpets, and striking marble create an inviting and tactile interior.
The living areas feature our signature marble side table, Franca in Calacatta Viola and pieces from our Pebble collection. The space incorporates a timeless palette, clean lines and contemporary designs to create a home that is seamlessly connected to its surroundings.
"Presenting smooth contours and geometric shapes, the home flows towards the natural landscape, encouraging residents to engage with nature." - The Local Project
The use of a soft, earthy colour palette and natural materials creates a calming environment for the family. One of the bedrooms features our Cookie Side Table in Rosa Levanto, bringing a pop of beautiful rich burgundy to the neutral space.
With the aim to echo the harmonious relationship between man-made structures and the coastal environment, the home forms a beautiful symbiosis between inside and out.
